Our Meeting With SASH

To help us get a better understanding of different kinds of homelessness, we set about arranging a meeting with one of York’s main homeless charities : Safe And Sound Homes (SASH) A charity that work with young people between the ages of 16-25 their motto being: “preventing youth homelessness together”. Fortunately for us the team at SASH were more then happy to meet us to discuss what they do, how they do it and why aiding us in our understanding of homelessness and differing challenges for those involved. We met with Emma Bracegirdle a team member at SASH and community fundraiser for the organisation. She discussed with us their supported lodgings and night stop schemes where a host would give accommodation tops young person for a single night or extended period of time, provided that the young person agrees and complies with the rules of the host. A host can be anyone willing to volunteer to shelter a young person however CRB checks are conducted on both sides to ensure the safety of both the host and the young person. Emma also gave us information on the history and on going works of SASH and outside fundraising events they had taking place including Sing with SASH and the big sleep out. Which one of our company ended up attending for more information and their experience of the big sleep out please check our site and you can get more information about SASH and the amazing work they do by clicking this link: https://www.sash-uk.org.uk/
• Having this opportunity to meet with Emma and actually discuss homelessness with somebody who works, see's and has first hand experience with it was a real eye opener for our company . It gave the issue a new importance and grounded it in a new reality for us that helped influence the work we created towards our final performance. Discussing all aspects not just the stereotypes that are fed to us by people who assume and turn their heads. Meeting with SASH was a great asset to out research and development when tackling homelessness and we will be forever grateful to Emma Bracegirdle and the SASH team for being so generous with their time and helping us to hopefully help others.
