Jack

Richardson

Jack Richardson is a 22-year-old practitioner, performer, writer and facilitator based in York. Throughout his theatre degree at York St John, Jack has found a passion for working with diverse communities in a theatre setting, which drives his passion to work with the homeless. Within his own practice, Jack is interested in creating theatre with physical aspects in, i.e. working with chair duets, lifting etc. He believes that a physical aspect to performance keeps performances interesting using different physical techniques. Having said that, Jack also enjoys storytelling theatre, as there is always a moral to a story, and Jack believes that is its most effective when used in a Theatre In Education Setting.

Jack has worked with many community groups including Hull Truck Theatre, Youth groups, converge and in different school settings; both primary and secondary. From working with predominantly with young people, Jack wanted to expand his repertoire and work with different community groups of different ages, and with homelessness being such a ‘big issue’, not only in York, but nationally. As a company Hand-Up Theatre hope to raise awareness about homelessness and reasons for being homeless, as there are many contributing factors as to why people end up on the streets or in hostels.
