Shannon

Salthouse

Shannon Salthouse, 21, is a York based Theatre practitioner, writer, scenographer, facilitator and performer. Originally from Rotherham, Shannon has witnessed the social injustice continuously happening to the lower working class, sparking her interest in working with vulnerable people. Within her own practice Shannon is interested in post dramatic performance, Dada and the Avant Garde; with a particular interest in the human condition/ psyche. Furthermore, Shannon is interested in the creation of atmospheres through the synergy of music and scenography and how they can be used to realise the potential of and transform a space. During her time at York St John university, she has developed an interest in creating theatre with different communities with a particular focus on vulnerable people of all ages and backgrounds, leading her to an interest in homelessness. Shannon believes that theatre is a powerful tool to bring people together acting as a perfect platform to start discussions and interrogate any issues in a way that is accessible to everyone.
Hand- up theatre strives to raise awareness of homelessness and highlight the stigma around it. As a company we are looking to explore the many pathways that lead to homelessness and keep in our minds that everyone is only ‘two steps’ away from homelessness. We aim to make people question what would ultimately make them homeless and what they consider home. We believe that everyone deserves a home and strive to make performance for homeless people and about homeless people. “we don’t need coins, we need change!”
