Megan

Beech

Megan Beech, 21, is a York based Theatre practitioner, writer, facilitator, performer and scenographer. Originally from Pontefract west Yorkshire, Megan’s main focus is writing with a particular interest in looking at the social and political issues that effects todays modern climate. During her time at York St John university Megan found a passion for working with vulnerable people and diverse groups which has stemmed throughout her work. Megan’s specific theatre genre is comedy with other interests in Narrative and Auto/Biopic performance, she likes to create work that can course awareness and create change within the audience and groups she works with. Much of her writing is written from the point of view of a person or character directly affected by the social injustice of today in order to connect with audiences/ groups on a more personal level. Megan believes that Theatre and performance is a great platform for discussing and spreading the word about social and political issues that are not looked at in a mainstream way. Performance/ writing allows practitioners to open a none confrontational dialogue with an audience, rising awareness in an entertaining and memorable way. Megan has worked with company’s such as Oprah North, The Royal Shakespeare company and local theatre groups, she has taken part in performance and writing festivals up and down the country and has worked in schools both primary and secondary. As a company Hand Up Theatre hopes to raise awareness about homelessness and the issues that families and individuals are facing living in hostels and on the streets up and down the country.
